Prof. Dr. Magda Gregorová

About

Magda Gregorová is Professor for Representation and Learning at the Faculty of Computer Science and Business Information Systems (FIW), THWS, and leads the Probabilistic Deep Learning Group (PDLG) within the Center for Artificial Intelligence (CAIRO). Her research centres on machine learning with a focus on deep generative models, and unsupervised and semi-supervised learning methods applied to complex data structures.

Her path into academia was not a direct one: before her PhD, she worked for over a decade in applied statistics and data analysis across very different domains — as a monetary and financial statistics specialist at the Czech National Bank, a statistical analyst and forecaster at Eurocontrol, and a senior data analyst at Expedia — before completing her doctorate in Geneva and moving into full-time research. That background continues to inform her interest in applying rigorous probabilistic methods to real, messy data, including through active industrial collaborations and connections with other THWS institutes.

Projects & Industry Collaboration

  ML-EMPerform — Deep learning surrogate models for electric motor performance prediction, bypassing costly FEM-based simulations. Funded by Valeo eAutomotive Germany GmbH.

  PhysioINK — subcontract from Fraunhofer ISC. Central data repository for the project's five partners, supporting scientific insight through data analysis and experimental design.
